CNNSI가 선정한 등번호 별 Top Players #1. 00~10

CNNSI에서 스포츠 선수의 등번호 별로 가장 뛰어난 선수를 선정 보도했습니다.
인터넷을 뒤져보니 각 신문의 화제 뉴스로 인용 보도 되기도 했죠.
궁금해서 직접 들어가서 확인해봤습니다.

여기로 가보시면 각 번호별로 선정된 선수들과 경쟁이 되었던 선수들이 명기되어 있습니다.
최종적으로 선수를 선발한 이유와 성적 등도 있죠.

No. 00  | Jim Otto

The Hall of Fame center manned the middle for the Raiders for 15 seasons.
He was named all-league 12 straight years (1960-71) and
played in six AFL titles games and one Super Bowl.

Runner-up : Robert Parish.

Worthy of consideration : Ken Burrough and Dean Smith
 (who wore 00 as a ninth-grader while playing for his father, Alfred,
 at Lowther Junior High in Topeka, Kansas)

My Comment : 잘 모르는 어른입니다. 경쟁자였던 로버트 패리쉬는 알겠는데;;;


No. 0 | Gilbert Arenas

A deadly shooter and well-known blogger,
Arenas has averaged 22.9 points during his six-year NBA career.
He ranked third (28.4 points) in scoring in 2006-07.

Runner-up : Al Oliver.

My Comment : 0번에 유명한 선수가 없었던 걸까요? 좀 의외네요.

No. 1 | Warren Moon

 

A CFL legend (he won five consecutive Grey Cups with Edmonton) before heading south,
Moon completed 3,988 of 6,823 passes for 49,325 yards and 291 touchdowns in 17 NFL seasons.

Runner-up: Oscar Robertson.

Worthy of consideration: Benny Friedman, Glenn Hall, Billy Martin, Sadaharu Oh, Jacques Plante, Pee Wee Reese, Terry Sawchuk, Ozzie Smith.

My Comment : 제가 조 몬태나에 푹 빠져지냈던 시절 봤던 흑인 쿼터백.
당시만 해도 흑인 쿼터백을 찾아보기 힘들었죠. 요즘은 좀 나아졌지만요^^

No. 2 | Secretariat

Out of the gate and into history,
Big Red won the 1973 Belmont Stakes by a preposterous 31 lengths.
The chestnut stallion won 16 of 21 races, including the Triple Crown in 1973.

Runner-up : Derek Jeter.

Worthy of consideration : Tommy Lasorda, Doug Harvey, Al MacInnis,
Moses Malone, Eddie Shore, Rusty Wallace.

My Comment : 국내보도에서 화제가 되었던 말이죠. 사람이 아닌 동물로
유일하게 베스트 플레이어로 선정되는 영광을^^
경쟁자인 데릭 지터를 제쳤다는 점이 더 의외네요. 미국 여성들의 우상인데...


No. 3 | Babe Ruth

Ruth didn't wear No. 3 regularly, nor did Lou Gehrig wear his famous 4 until Opening Day 1929,
when the Yankees officially decided to wear numbers. By then, the Bambino was a legend.

Runner-up : Dale Earnhardt.

Worthy of consideration : Allen Iverson, Bronko Nagurski, Dwyane Wade.

My Comment : 더 두말할 나위없는 그야말로 전설이죠.


No. 4 | Bobby Orr

Eight straight Norris trophies, the only defenseman to win the Art Ross Trophy,
and who can forget the seminal image of Orr flying through the air after scoring against the Blues
in the 1970 Stanley Cup.

Runner-up : Lou Gehrig.

Worthy of consideration : Jean Beliveau, Brett Favre, Mel Ott, Duke Snider, Adam Vinatieri.

My Comment : 루 게릭을 제쳤다는 점만 보더라도 대단한 선수임을 알겠는데...
개인적으로 제가 잘 모르는 분인지라.


No. 5 | Joe DiMaggio

The 56-game hitting streak. Three-time MVP.
Spouse of Marilyn Monroe. DiMaggio played his entire career (1936-1951)
for the Yankees and hit .325 with 361 home runs.

Runner-up : Johnny Bench.

Worthy of consideration : George Brett, Hank Greenberg, Paul Hornung,
Donovan McNabb, Albert Pujols, Brooks Robinson.

My Comment : 설명이 필요할까요? 56게임 연속안타의 기록을 지닌 디마지오.


No. 6 | Bill Russell

An extraordinary defender and the centerpiece of the Celtics dynasty,
Russell played on 11 NBA championship teams in 13 years.

Runner-up : Stan Musial.

Worthy of consideration : Julius Erving (Sixers), Al Kaline, Joe Torre.

My Comment : 카림 압둘자바 이전에 골밑을 지배했던 빌 러셀입니다.


No. 7 | John Elway

The personification of persistence.
Elway lost the first three Super Bowls he appeared in before
 leading the Broncos to titles in 1997 and '98.
He led Denver to a record 47 fourth-quarter comebacks.

Runner-up : Mickey Mantle.

Worthy of consideration : David Beckham, Phil Esposito, Ted Lindsay.

My Comment : 역시 제가 조 몬태나에 푹 빠져있던 시절
그의 라이벌이었던 존 얼웨이입니다.
미국 사람들은 이 친구를 더 좋아하는 것 같더군요. 몬태나보다...


No. 8 | Cal Ripken Jr.

One of the better numbers in sports.
Ripken played in a record 2,632 consecutive games for the Orioles,
setting a sporting standard for work ethic.
He played 21 seasons in Baltimore, hitting 431 home runs
and earning All-Star game nominations in each of his seasons.

Runner-up : Yogi Berra.

Worthy of consideration : Troy Aikman, Kobe Bryant (through 2006), Dale Earnhardt Jr.,
Joe Morgan, Steve Young, Carl Yastrzemski.

My Comment : 00번 부터 10번까지 보고 제가 가장 의외라고 생각한 선수입니다.
그의 경쟁자가 요기 베라였다는 점을 생각한다면 더욱 그렇죠.
유독 쟁쟁한 경쟁자가 많았던 8번 자리같군요.
트로이 에이크먼, 코비 브라이언트, 조 모건, 스티브 영, 칼 야스트르젬스키까지...
그야말로 대단한 선수들의 집합장이네요.


No. 9 | Ted Williams

Another spirited debate but Williams gets the nod over Mr. Hockey.
He won two Triple Crowns, hit .406 in 1941 and had a lifetime average of .344.

Runner-up : Gordie Howe.

Worthy of consideration : Bill Elliott, Mia Hamm, Bobby Hull, Bob Pettit, Rocket Richard.

My Comment : 8번에 비해 상대적으로 덜 만만한(?) 경쟁자들을 만난 탓일까요?
비교적 쉽게 9번에서 베스트 플레이어 자리를 차지한 테드 윌리엄스군요^^


No. 10 | Pele

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as the soccer genius Pele,
is the most famous footballer of all time.
He played on three World Cup-winning teams with Brazil (1958, 1962, 1970)
and helped launch soccer in America
when he came out of retirement to play for the Cosmos in 1975.

Runner-up : Diego Maradona.

Worthy of consideration : Walt Frazier, Guy Lafleur, Zinedine Zidane.

My Comment : 역시 두말할 나위없는 선정이죠.
CNNSI의 이번 선정이 대부분 미국의 4대 메이저 프로스포츠에서 선정되었다는 비판에도 불구하고
10번 포지션에서만큼은 그들도 펠레를 인정할 수 밖에 없었나봅니다.
전통적으로 축구에서 스트라이커들이 포진하는 자리인지라
그의 경쟁자 역시 아르헨티나의 영웅인 마라도나군요^^


이렇게 올려서 언제 99번까지 올리려는지 -_-;;; 세월이군요;;;
